The other story of honey

Honey has long been known as a nutritious food with many health benefits. Recently, there has been an increased use of honey as a sweetener in drinks, cereals and other breakfast foods. Because of this, I am seeing more patients with tooth decay. Typically, the decay shows up on Xrays and are usually in the root. What I have seen is aggressive decay and usually the patients require root canal therapy and it is usually followed up by a crown restoration. I recommend reducing the intake of honey or using an alternative sweetener for those who have a problem with it. I would also encourage the use of a high fluoride tooth paste.
